Backstreet Boy and accomplished solo artist Nick Carter recently joined forced with Global Green USA in an effort to spread awareness on the importance of going green. Carter’s first contribution to the organization is a staggering $16,100 which was raised as a result of a weeklong bidding-frenzy on eBay.com for Carter’s used sneakers, which were signed by members of the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block. The auction began on September 11 at $100, and ended yesterday after 17 bidders placed 101 bids on the shoes.
The proceeds will directly benefit Global Green USA, the only national environmental non-profit headquartered in Southern California, though it has offices in New Orleans, New York, and Washington, D.C. Its work in the U.S. is primarily focused on fighting global climate change through their green affordable housing initiatives, National Green Schools Initiative, national and regional green building policies, advocacy and education.
This donation promises to be the first of many from the pop-musician who has been an icon since he started his career at age 12. Carter spent the past 14 years touring with Backstreet Boys, the group that made him an international superstar. Carter released his first solo album, Now or Never, in 2002, and his second solo record, I’m Taking Off, came out earlier this year. He also starred in the horror film, The Hollow. Earlier this year, he joined the New Kids on the Block and the rest of the Backstreet Boys on a world tour.
